More than 50% of new infection taking place are among the youth below 25 years. There are some states in the country which are classified as high incidence states namely Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Manipur. West Bengal and Gujarat have been identified as medium incidence state and rest of the country falls in the category of low HIV prevalence region
