Cyclones, Hurricanes and Typhoons are the same thing with different names. Basically, those storms formed in the North Atlantic ocean and northeast pacific ocean are called Hurricanes. Those Formed in south pacific and indian oceans are called cyclones and the ones in northwest pacific oceans are called typhoons.

Now let's understand why cyclones are formed. For cyclones to form, Sea's surface temperature should be warmer than 26.5 degrees Celsius. And do you know, things are formed only in tropical regions? And there is a reason behind this also. 

As our earth is round, the polar regions, which are the lower and upper poles of the earth,  receive the sun's slanting rays. Which are less effective compared to direct rays and thus these regions are colder. In comparison, tropical regions which are located in the middle of the earth receive Sun's direct or vertical rays. So this area has more heat and light. So sometimes, this temperature goes over 26.5 degrees and cyclones start forming. 


How do cyclones form?

We need to know three things first, which most of you would already know, but let's revise! 

Firstly, high pressure air is colder and low pressure air is warmer. Secondly, warm air moves in an upward direction. And thirdly, air flows from high pressure to low pressure. Let's understand this in easy words. 

When the ocean's surface gets warm, the air above water gets moist and then starts to move in upwards direction. Because of which a low air pressure is created. Now the air around this region is of high pressure which moves towards the low pressure region. And cyclones are formed! 


How do these Cyclones get so big?

Actually what happens is, when the high pressure cold air flows towards low pressure then this cold air also turns to warm air and moves in upward direction as moisture. This leads to the formation of clouds. To fill the void created by low pressure air, high pressure air circulates in these cycles so many times that a cyclone keeps getting bigger! 

A lot of other factors also matter in this, but rather than going into technicalities, I have tried to explain this in simpler languages. 


How do cyclones end?

Cyclones need moisture to sustain. So when these cyclones come closer to land, the supply of moisture is cut off and it's intensity decreases with time. The collision between cyclones and land is called the "landfall of cyclones." But before this cyclone vanishes, it causes so much destruction it leads to a lot of loss.

Try to reuse or recycle the things that you buy. If we will buy less things, there will be less use of industries and transport and use of fossil fuels will also reduce. 

If all of us take our responsibilities, then we might be able to reduce its impact.
